New Zealand Pro at Manu Bay
The World Surf League Championship Tour came to Whāingaroa Raglan from 15–25 May 2026, marking the first combined men’s and women’s WSL Championship Tour event held in Aotearoa.
As the fourth stop on the global tour, the New Zealand Pro brought the world’s top 36 men and 24 women surfers to Manu Bay’s renowned left-hand point break. The event celebrated Raglan’s deep surfing heritage while showcasing Whāingaroa to an international audience of fans, media and visitors.
Alongside the elite competition, the event created opportunities for young New Zealand surfers through wildcard entries, the WSL Rising Tides programme and a board caddy initiative for local under-14 surfers.
Supported through the Government’s Events Attraction Package, the New Zealand Pro was expected to deliver significant benefits for the region – attracting international visitors, stimulating the local economy and enhancing New Zealand’s profile as a destination for major sporting events.
Following the event, Go Raglan commissioned research to better understand its economic, social, environmental and destination impacts. Drawing on feedback from residents, businesses and community stakeholders, the Whāingaroa Raglan World Surf League Impact Report captures what worked well, the benefits experienced and opportunities to strengthen future major events. Report funding was provided thanks to Raglan Naturally and Waikato District Council.
