General Manager – Environment and Community resilience
Xtreme Zero Waste | WhÄingaroa Raglan
We’re looking for an experienced and values-led leader to join Xtreme Zero Waste as our GM – Environment & Community Resilience.
We’re a community organisation with a big vision – A world without waste where WhÄingaroa flourishes with natural biodiversity and a community connected to the environment
This is a broad and influential role for someone who can think strategically, build strong relationships and turn good ideas into practical action.
The role
Working in collaboration with our GM Zero Waste Operations, you’ll form XZW’s senior co-leadership team. Together you’ll lead the organisation’s strategy, culture, performance and continued development.
Your particular focus will be on the people, relationships and community-impact side of XZW.
You’ll lead across:
People, capability and culture – strengthening our people practices and helping build a positive, values-led workplace.
Community impact and innovation – helping ensure our programmes make a meaningful and measurable difference.
Community, iwi and partnerships – growing meaningful relationships across WhÄingaroa and beyond, and strengthening Te Tiriti-based participation in our work.
Funding and sustainability – developing our funding strategy, building strong funder relationships and identifying opportunities that support XZW’s long-term sustainability.
Communications and advocacy – telling XZW’s story well and strengthening understanding of our kaupapa and impact.
There’s plenty to get your teeth into. We’re looking for someone who is comfortable with that breadth and who enjoys working collaboratively rather than staying neatly inside one professional box.
Who we’re looking for
You might come from community or organisational development, environmental leadership, communications, education, business or another relevant field.
You’ll bring experience in people leadership and organisational development, alongside a track record of building effective stakeholder and community relationships. You’ll also have experience with funding, financial oversight and working across different areas of an organisation.
A commitment to Te Tiriti o Waitangi, and experience working respectfully with MÄori communities, iwi and hapĆ«, is important to us.
Above all, you’ll be someone who is collaborative, accountable, proactive and prepared to contribute wherever needed.
Why Xtreme Zero Waste?
You’ll be part of an organisation deeply connected to WhÄingaroa, working alongside people who care about their community and environment and who aren’t afraid to challenge how things have always been done.
Our values include Kaitiakitanga, Manaakitanga and Kotahitanga – guardianship, respect and working together. If those values resonate with you, and you have the leadership experience to help turn them into action, we’d love to hear from you.
