Restoration projects
The Toreparu Wetland Restoration and the Karioi Project showcase Raglan’s deep commitment to environmental and cultural preservation. Through wetland restoration, protection of native species, and biodiversity efforts spanning from maunga to moana, these initiatives safeguard vital ecosystems while honouring ancestral connections to the land and water. Together, they unite local communities in restoring habitats, educating future generations, and rewilding the Whāingaroa landscape for a sustainable future.
Whāingaroa Environmental Initiatives
Raglan’s environmental initiatives reflect a strong community commitment to sustainability and kaitiakitanga (guardianship). Through projects like the Tiaki Promise, locals and visitors pledge to protect Aotearoa’s natural beauty and travel with care. Organisations such as Xtreme Zero Waste drive a circular economy and divert most local waste from landfill, while Community Energy Whāingaroa promotes renewable energy, efficient homes, and climate resilience. At the heart of these efforts, the Whāingaroa Environment Centre connects people through hands-on projects, workshops, and sustainable living initiatives—together creating a cleaner, greener, and more resilient future for Whāingaroa.
