We’re looking for an experienced butcher to join our small, friendly team at our whānau-owned butcher shop, Top Cut Butchery in Raglan.
This is an important role within our team, covering all aspects of retail butchery, from meat preparation and production through to customer service and general shop duties. We’re looking for someone reliable who takes pride in their work, can take responsibility when needed, and is happy to get stuck in wherever required to help keep the shop running smoothly.
It’s a varied, hands-on role where your experience will be valued and you’ll have the opportunity to become a trusted and important part of the team.
We’re looking for an experienced Butcher to join our small team at Top Cut Butchery in Raglan.
Butchery will be the primary focus of the role, including breaking down and preparing meat, retail cuts and displays, customer orders, sausage and dog roll production, smoked products and other general butchery preparation.
Serving and assisting customers is also a key part of the role, and you’ll be expected to provide friendly, knowledgeable service across the counter.
Being a small team, everyone is expected to contribute to the wider running of the shop. When butchery work is up to date, you’ll assist wherever required rather than being limited strictly to butchery duties. This can include cleaning and food-safety requirements, audit/checklist paperwork, stock management and ordering, receiving deliveries, maintaining displays and other day-to-day operational tasks.
You will also be required to take responsibility for closing the shop when rostered to a closing shift, ensuring end-of-day tasks are completed and the shop is left clean, secure and ready for the following day.
We’re looking for someone capable of taking responsibility and helping keep the shop running when required, including stepping up during staff absences, sick leave and busy seasonal periods. You should be comfortable working independently, using initiative and doing what needs to be done to keep the business operating smoothly.
Flexibility during our busiest trading periods, particularly Christmas and New Year, is important as these are key times for the business.
Full-time position with competitive pay based on experience.
• Previous butchery experience
• Confident knife and meat preparation skills
• Reliable with a strong work ethic
• Able to work independently and use initiative
• Good communication and customer service skills
• Willing to contribute to all aspects of running a small butcher shop
• High standards of cleanliness, food safety and presentation
• Comfortable taking responsibility for closing the shop when rostered to a closing shift
• Flexibility to work as required during busy seasonal periods, particularly Christmas and New Year
• Trade qualification preferred, but solid industry experience will be considered
